Abstract
The Poaceae-inhabiting Phlaeothripinae in East Asia are reviewed taxonomically, and their biological characteristics are considered. The morphological differences between the tribe Haplothripini and the Phlaeothrips -lineage are re-considered. Twelve genera and 39 species are dealt with, of which six genera and 18 species are newly described: Androthrips — A. bambusicola sp. nov., A. dambriae sp. nov., A. fuscipes sp. nov., A. graminicola sp. nov., A. huanglianensis, A. javae sp. nov.; Mychiothrips gen. rev. — M. fruticola comb. rev., M. crassipes comb. rev.; Namothrips gen. nov. — N. bambusae sp. nov.; Okajimathrips — O. borealis sp. nov., O. kentingensis; Podothrips — P. abdominalis sp. nov., P. antennatus sp. nov., P. asiaticus sp. nov., P. bellatulus, P. bicolor stat rev., P. etsukoae, P. femoralis, P. ferrugineus, P. flavipes sp. nov., P. gracilicornis sp. nov., P. lucasseni, P. luteus, P. odonaspicola, P. sasacola, P. semiflavus, and P. taiwanus sp. nov.; Praepodothrips — P. causiopeltas, P. flavicornis, P. indicus, P. sonlae sp. nov., P. yunnanensis; Propesolomonthrips — P. mindorensis; Squamothrips gen. nov. — S. crassus sp. nov.; Takeazamiuma gen. nov. — T. exilis comb. nov., T. simplex comb. nov.; Thaithrips gen. nov. — T. unicolor sp. nov.; Vietothrips gen. nov. — V. bicolor sp. nov.; Yurikoazamiuma gen. nov. — Y. bidens sp. nov. Mychiothrips is recalled from the synonym of Veerabahuthrips, and Podothrips bicolor is recalled from synonym of P. sasacola. Illustrated keys are provided for the following five taxonomic units: seven species of Poaceae-inhabiting Androthrips; two species of Okajimathrips; 15 species of Podothrips from East Asia; five species of Praepodothrips from East Asia; four genera closely related to Podothrips.
