The herbarium of the Natural History Museum Vienna was founded in 1807 with the imperial collections of the plant cabinet. It's size was estimated 5.5 million on the basis of material handling during relocation within the building in the early 1990ies. Emphasis currently lies in cataloging and digitization of especially type material and regional flora.
